Kate was abandoned shortly after her birth and was taken in some time later by a woman who became her foster mother. Her foster mother married in 1995, and since she and her husband had no land, they had to struggle to make ends meet. Kate and her mother earned money by collecting garbage. Her father vented his frustration by beating Kate. Kate’s mother persuaded him to take a job out of the area. Her mother died from a heart attack in 2006. Kind neighbors helped her for a while, and then sent a letter to the orphanage asking us to take her because they were worried her father would come back and abuse her again. Kate has a safe and loving home with us, and is working hard to catch up with her studies. We are helping her to heal emotionally from the trauma she has been through.
