Sandy was four years old when her mother died from leukemia. Her father died a few years later. Her older brother left to find a job, leaving Sandy and her other brother to fend for themselves. They survived with help from people in their village. Sandy was molested one night by a young man who knew she was at home alone. Her teachers and neighbors petitioned us to take her to our home. She arrived shortly after that. Surrounded by the love and protection of the orphanage, the memories of her suffering gradually diminished. Sandy is a gentle, quiet girl who smiles a lot now. She has made remarkable progress in school and now ranks 3rd in her class.
