My name is Ruth (He Ting Ting). I was born in September 12, 1994. I am an orphan, an unfortunate orphan, but a blessed orphan. I had a happy family just like other children and I had parents who loved me. But this beautiful life did not last very long. My father wanted us to have a better life, so when I was three years old, he went to work in the city to support our family. My mother stayed home to care for me.
On one Chinese New Year night, there was a huge snowstorm and it was very windy. My father had just gotten paid. He had the money in his hand and was rushing back home. The ground was very slippery and he fell. As he was reaching to hold on to something and trying to stand up, a van ran right to him and kill my father instantly. As he was lying there, the blood was flowing out from his body and soaked the money that was in his hand. I often wondered why the van driver took my father’s life? Why? Why did this happen to us? That night, my father left this world, my family and me forever. Not long after that, my mother left home and abandoned me, leaving me with my grandparents. My grandparents had just lost their son and now they’ve lost their daughter-in-law as well. I knew that I was a burden to them, but they loved me and cared so much about me. They did everything for me and worked so hard to support me so that I can get good education. There were times when I saw them really struggling to make money and were losing hope. But, heaven realized my situation and gave me the greatest blessing of my life.
On February 20, 2006, I was chosen to attend Beijing Bo Ai Training School which is now called Angels Training School. I lived with more than 40 children who were just like me. We came from different villages. Everyone had experienced a very unfortunate childhood. When we first met, we were strangers; but now we support and love each other just like brothers and sisters. At the training school, we’ve seen so many things we had never seen before, and ate food that we had never eaten before. There was so many athletic equipment like ping pong tables, soccer balls, basketballs, etc. There was just so much, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Most importantly, my family no longer had to worry about how I would receive education and when my next meal would come. There are no words can describe the joy I felt, I was incredibly thankful.
In October 2008, we moved to Fang Shan Angels Training School. I had grown a lot over the last few years. Every day, I took the bus with all of my brothers and sisters to school. We ate together, studied together and lived together. It was truly my home and we deeply loved and cared for each other.
Right now, I’m taking an internship in a local restaurant, a company that has several chain restaurants in China. The staff and the leaders are treating me as their own child. They are one of the donors of the Angels Training School. Their love and support have touched many students. The reason I’ve chosen this company was to show them how much I appreciated the love and support that they have been giving to the Angels Training School and me.
Now I’m grown and independent. I’ve learned the value of life and to treasure all of my experiences. Those years were just like a dream to me. I’ve never thought that I could receive such good education and work for such a great company.
Without the support of all of you loving people, where would our school be? Where would we be? I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to receive education and to have a big happy loving family! I’ve learned selfless love from you. You’ve helped me to understand how beautiful this world can be. You’ve given me hope and great light where there was once dark. Thank you for blessing me with this wonderful place – the Angels Training School. I also wanted to give thanks to my grandparents. No one would ever understand just how much they had done for me. I love my family!
